PUBG Mobile Team Roles Explained: IGL, Fragger, Scout and Support

What each role in a competitive PUBG Mobile squad does, which stats reveal it, and how to build a balanced four-player team.

A competitive PUBG Mobile squad has four players, and the strongest teams give each of them a clear job. Roles are not rigid, but knowing them makes communication faster and recruitment smarter.

In-game leader (IGL)

The IGL decides where the team drops, when it rotates, and which fights to take. A good IGL reads the circle, tracks which teams are nearby and calls decisions quickly and calmly. They often have modest kill numbers but high assist counts and strong team placement, because their job is to put the squad in good positions rather than to collect eliminations.

What to look for: consistent team placement, calm communication, and a good understanding of the map and rotations.

Entry fragger

The entry fragger takes the first fight. When the squad clashes with another team, the entry player creates the opening, whether that is a knock, a flush or a swing. Entry players usually have the highest damage and knock counts, and also the highest risk of being knocked early. They need quick reactions and trust in their teammates to trade.

What to look for: high damage per match, high knockouts, good spray control and close-range fighting.

Support

Support players do the work that wins fights without showing up on the kill list: throwing utility (smokes, grenades, flashes), reviving teammates, covering angles and finishing weakened enemies. Their stats show high revives and assists, and sometimes more kills than they would get as a pure supporter.

What to look for: revives, assists, good use of grenades and smokes, and a reliable stance when others are down.

Scout

The scout gathers information and watches the flanks, often using a scope or a vehicle to check a position before the team commits. Scouts may also carry a marksman rifle to hit targets at long range. They keep the squad from being surprised from behind, and they are often the player calling enemy positions.

What to look for: good map awareness, long-range accuracy, and clear callouts.

Many teams combine roles

Four players cannot cover every job separately, so roles overlap. For example, the IGL may also be the support. A second fragger may double as the scout. What matters is that everyone knows who is responsible for what at the start of a fight, especially who calls and who pushes.

Building a balanced squad

  1. One decision maker. Too many voices cause confusion; pick one IGL and respect the call.
  2. Two reliable fraggers. They create pressure and keep kill points flowing.
  3. A support-minded player who keeps the team alive between fights.
  4. A sharp scout or flex player who reads the circle and watches the back.

Using stats to compare roles

Compare players against others in the same role, not against everyone. A support with 120 average damage and 25 revives over a tournament might be more valuable than a fragger with 220 damage who never trades. The guide to reading player stats explains which numbers show which roles, and the SSPpedia players list shows career stats for every player recorded on the platform.
